Prenant l’Acadie du Nouveau-Brunswick pour terrain, Annette Boudreau et Isabelle Violette analysent les enjeux sociaux liés à la construction du savoir linguistique en milieu minoritaire. Les auteurs montrent comment en milieu minoritaire les changements sociaux liés à la mondialisation contribuent à la reconfiguration de l’identité acadienne ; une identité pendant longtemps forgée autour d’un français imaginé comme pur et à l’abri de toute influence. En effet, depuis la fin du 19e siècle, les Acadiens se sont construits en valorisant surtout leurs racines françaises d’où leur acharnement à légitimer les tournures « archaïques » et à dévaloriser tout ce qui était lié, d’une façon ou d’une autre, aux éléments anglophones. Avec la nouvelle donne internationale, on assiste à une réévaluation des formes conservatrices et des emprunts – les deux étant désormais dotées de valeurs symboliques nouvelles.
