Abstract
L'Afrique, terre imaginaire du sida La subversion du discours scientifique par le jeu des fantasmes Stéréotypes, préjugés et clichés ont historiquement structuré tant les discours scientifiques que populaires formulés par les Occidentaux à l'égard des Africains et de leurs cultures. Aujourd'hui encore, les savants semblent incapables d'échapper à cet imaginaire négatif, comme en témoignent leurs positions face au sida africain : malgré l'absence de données fiables, ils tendent à situer l'origine du virus au cœur de l'Afrique et plusieurs vont jusqu'à soutenir qu'une programmation génétique spécifique prédispose les populations africaines à la polygamie, à moins de contraintes sexuelles, et partant à une plus grande vulnérabilité au sida. Cet essai critique met au jour les limites des modèles conceptuels dominants qui dissimulent sous l'apparence de la science ce qui n'est que racisme.
