Abstract
It became apparent at an early stage that soliciting articles for what was originally a special section on the Arctic alone was not going to produce sufficient material. So through some dynamic and innovative discussion at a meeting of the TLE Editorial Board, we decided to change the theme to Canada and Arctic, although some may think this specificity of region somewhat superfluous. Consequently, we have four articles and only one involves the Arctic. Furthermore, the three non-Arctic papers deal with unconventional resource plays for gas and heavy oil production.
