L’application d’une méthodologie qualitative systématique a contribué à l’émergence d’un concept approprié à la compréhension du phénomène de l’implantation en milieu scolaire d’une innovation complexe tel l’ordinateur. Le concept d’enracinement ainsi extrait des données recueillies auprès de 26 enseignants de six commissions scolaires de l’île de Montréal traduit le processus individuel d’appropriation progressive de l’innovation. Les résultats sont synthétisés dans un modèle descriptif de l’enracinement des applications pédagogiques de l’ordinateur.
