Eine Rekordernte an „mehrfach ungesättigten“ Cyclophanen wurde kürzlich aufgrund methodischer Fortschritte eingebracht, welche erneut das Gebiet der Cyclophanchemie befruchteten. Unter den besonderen Merkmalen dieser Designermoleküle sind strukturelle Neuheiten, Spannung und seine Folgen, ungewöhnliche elektronische Effekte, verwertbare physikalische Eigenschaften und Stereochemie zu finden. Oteras „enantiomerenreine, doppelthelicalen Alkinylcyclophane“ (Beispiele im Bild) sind vielleicht das Beste vom Besten.
