Abstract
" (...) faire de la sociologie du cinéma ce n'est pas rechercher dans le film un reflet plus ou moins fidèle de la société. (...) Le cinéma est dans la réalité sociale elle-même, il en fait partie à la fois par son organisation économique et par la médiation de l'auteur, sans parler des chocs en retour qui se produisent, avec des décalages temporels, entre le cinéma et la réalité. (...) La sociologie du cinéma a pour but de répondre à la question suivante : pourquoi à tel moment historique y a-t-il tel cinéma ? Pourquoi le néo-réalisme en Italie dans les années d'après guerre et non pas en Allemagne ou en France ? " L'auteur illustre son propros théorique par des analyses des films de Lang et par des exemples puisés à même ses travaux sur le néo-réalisme italien.
