Abstract
Corridor appalachien célèbre son 10 e anniversaire. Depuis sa création, l’organisme poursuit la mise en oeuvre de sa stratégie de conservation, basée sur la protection d’un réseau écologique composé de noyaux de conservation et de corridors de dispersion. À ce jour, près de 100 km2 de milieux naturels ont été protégés sur le territoire d’action de l’organisme. De ces 100 km2, plus des trois quarts ont été protégés par son partenaire principal, Conservation de la nature Canada, incluant les propriétés constituant la réserve naturelle des Montagnes-Vertes ; des groupes locaux de conservation, partenaires affiliés de Corridor appalachien, assurent la protection des autres territoires. Cette stratégie de conservation a aussi pour objectif de procurer aux collectivités locales les moyens de maintenir un cadre de vie qui respecte l’écologie et la biodiversité de la région. Au cours de la prochaine décennie, le principal enjeu de Corridor appalachien sera de s’assurer que le réseau écologique dont il vise la protection soit résilient et fonctionnel face aux changements climatiques.
