Abstract
Cette étude se propose d’analyser la production des services environnementaux dans un département français, le Puy-de-Dôme (7970 km²) au cours de l’année 2002. Face au faible nombre de données statistiques sur les services environnementaux, nous avons eu recours à un dépouillement exhaustif d’un quotidien régional français (La Montagne). Nous avons relevé 151 services environnementaux sur la seule année 2002. Notre étude fait ressortir le rôle important, au niveau local (i.e. départemental), joué par les associations, les bénévoles et les collectivités territoriales dans la fourniture de services environnementaux. De nombreux services environnementaux concernent les cours d’eau. La production de services environnementaux semble par ailleurs liée à la proximité d’un pôle urbain. La proximité urbaine favorise la production de services environnementaux car les associations et les bénévoles susceptibles de produire des services environnementaux sont plus nombreux à proximité des villes que dans les espaces ruraux isolés. Cependant, ces résultats sont à relativiser car la source (presse quotidienne régionale) sur-représente les actions des acteurs locaux au détriment d’autres producteurs de services environnementaux.
