Vinylbenzylchloride (VBC) and divinylbenzene (DVB) were used to prepare a new adsorbent for CO 2 capture by the high internal phase emulsion technique. Effects of surfactant, water fraction, monomer ratio, and porogen type on the properties of the adsorbent were studied to select a suitable condition for preparation. Optimal properties were obtained from 90 vol% water fraction, 20 wt% of three component surfactants, 65/35 volume ratio of DVB/VBC and chloroethylbenzene porogen. The new material had a surface area of 150 m 2 /g with an adsorption capacity of 0.106 mmol/g.
