Abstract
La demande sociale grandissante en enseignement, à la fin du XIXe siècle, et la volonté des évêques trifluviens d’y apporter une réponse les font s’adresser aux ursulines de Trois-Rivières. Les caractéristiques de l’institution : ancienneté de l’implantation, autonomie du monastère, présence de trois catégories de religieuses dans la communauté et vie claustale compliquée par les exigences de l’enseignement sont connues de la part des nombreuses femmes qu’elles recrutent pour satisfaire les besoins de l’enseignement. Cet article s’intéresse à la mise en place de ces caractéristiques et au portait socioéconomique des recrues.
