Abstract
RESUME. — Au nom d’André Davidovitch, on peut associer le renouveau des recherches sociologiques sur la criminalité après la Seconde Guerre, dans un domaine traditionnellement occupé par les juristes. Étudiant d’Henri Lévy-Bruhl, il perpétue, après la disparition de ce dernier, une tradition de recherche inspirée de la sociologie durkheimienne. L’activité de Davidovitch s’effectue principalement au Centre d’études sociologiques et dans L’Année sociologique. Étudiant ce double phénomène social que constituent le crime d’une part, et la peine d’autre part, Davidovitch, entre autres travaux marquants, livre une réflexion sur le fonctionnement de la « machine judiciaire », tente de cerner les causes d’une nouvelle criminalité dite « astucieuse », étudie la délinquance routière et la déviance en milieu urbain, secteur traditionnel dans lequel il innove en réfléchissant sur l’utilisation des données policières locales considérées comme indices de comportements. Jouant de la sorte le triple rôle de passeur institutionnel et intellectuel et d’innovateur, il occupe une place charnière dans l’histoire de la sociologie du crime en France.
