Abstract
Experts in dementia have raised concerns over the medical reports used to prove that former Chilean dictator, 85 year old Augusto Pinochet, was mentally unfit to be tried for crimes committed under his military rule from 1973 to 1990. Pinochet “can remember as far back as 60 years,” has a “tremendous sense of judgment and time,” and would be standing trial if he were anywhere in the Western world, said Dr Luis Fornazzari, a Chilean neurologist at the University of Toronto, who attended four days of tests on Pinochet in a military hospital in January at the request of prosecuting lawyers.
