Abstract
Epilepsy is a chronic noncommunicable disorder of the brain that affects people of all ages in every country of the world. Among the different types of treatment options for epileptic patients, antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) are the first line treatment by decreasing seizures. Nevertheless, different antiepileptic drugs can have different side effects. The most common side effects include; learning and attention problems, changes in mood or behavior, vitamin D serum reduction and interferes with the metabolism of calcium. The negative effects of antiepileptic drugs on the bone metabolism are one of the most significant and discussed side effects. Therefore, the present review aimed to discuss nonpharmacological approaches for management of epilepsy.
