Abstract
Notre contribution est de l’ordre du témoignage au titre fortement référencé – elle s’inspire du célèbre essai Écrire en pays dominé de l’intellectuel et écrivain martiniquais Patrick Chamoiseau – et elle ambitionne d’aborder trois problématiques qui sont distinctes et mêlées à la fois. Il s’agit de poser la question complexe et passionnante des pratiques théâtrales d’expression française et francophone dans un espace dominé par les langues anglaise et espagnole. Quatre îles de l’arc antillo-caribéen, français et francophone, serviront d’exemples : la Dominique, Haïti, la Martinique et la Guadeloupe. Pour chacun de ces pays, nous questionnerons l’actualité des pratiques théâtrales, aussi bien dans leur diversité que dans leur spécificité d’expression en langue française ou francophone ; puis nous tâcherons de mettre en perspective les rapports de résistance, conflictuels et contradictoires, qu’à partir de cette langue première, ils entretiennent avec le continent américain.
