Abstract

The DiCo/LAF “global approach” to the description of semantic derivations and collocations is presented. Our main tenet: collocations should not be described in isolation. Base collocate relations — i.e. syntagmatic lexical links — ought to be modeled together with semantic derivations — i.e. paradigmatic links — using the same descriptive tool: lexical functions. Furthermore, other lexical properties have to be considered, such as the lexical unit’s semantic label, actantial structure and syntactic government pattern. We will explain how all these properties are encoded in the DiCo database, exemplifying our approach with the specific case of the French vocable débat (‘debate’).
