Abstract
En se basant sur le discours des autorités et des observateurs et sur les archives judiciaires, cet article fera la lumière sur les prostituées de l’Atlantique français à la fin du xvii e siècle et au début du xviii e siècle, et tentera d’expliquer en quoi l’activité de la prostituée fait d’elle un élément de désordre pour la société française tant dans la métropole qu’en Nouvelle-France. Les thèmes du genre et de la sexualité seront donc étudiés dans une perspective impériale et atlantique, afin de faire ressortir la particularité coloniale, mais surtout de suggérer des pistes pour la recherche.
