Un hôpital pédiatrique canadien offre une visite virtuelle pré-opératoire sur son site internet. Une étude descriptive a évalué cette visite en termes d’utilisation, d’efficacité et d’utilité. La visite a été utilisée par 49.6 % des 123 familles. Les enfants de ces familles ont démontré une augmentation significative des connaissances du temps 1 (clinique pré-opératoire) au temps 2 (jour de la chirurgie). Les enfants et les adolescents n’ayant pas utilisé la visite se sont dits plus anxieux la journée de la chirurgie mais pas de manière significative. Il n’y a eu aucun changement significatif chez les parents. L’internet est un outil utile dans la préparation des familles mais ne peut remplacer une interaction directe. D’autres recherches sont nécessaires pour évaluer l’impact de ce type de préparation sur la qualité des soins et la récupération de l’enfant.
