Est-ce que le Québec subit un processus de militarisation sociétale ? La question peut paraître farfelue, puisqu’il est couramment accepté que les Québécois partagent des valeurs antimilitaristes, voire pacifistes. Dans cet article, les auteurs examinent rigoureusement la question. Ils dressent d’abord une typologie des attitudes potentiellement partagées par les Québécois en matière de sécurité internationale. Il vérifient ensuite, à l’aide de dizaines de sondages d’opinion publique réalisés au cours des 25 dernières années, la nature et l’ampleur des préférences québécoises vis-à-vis des enjeux de politique étrangère et de défense. Il se dégage de l’article un portrait, plutôt paradoxal, selon lequel les Québécois maintiennent des préférences durablement anti-impérialistes, tout en exprimant de fortes opinions militaristes.
