Abstract
Im Wechsel mit der Internationalen Konferenz für Mechanische Diagnose und Therapie (MDT) findet alle 2 Jahre die Conference of the Americas statt. Die Organisatoren der McKenzie-Institute USA, Kanada und Brasilien wählten diesmal die geschichtsträchtige Stadt Montreal im kanadischen Quebec als Veranstaltungsort aus (Abb. [ 1 ]). Auf einer Insel im St. Lorenz Strom gelegen, wartet die 3,4 Millionen Metropole ebenso mit eleganter, französisch geprägter Baukultur als auch gelungener zeitgenössischer Architektur auf. Bisweilen waren die Planer ihrer Zeit wirklich weit voraus - und das im doppelten Sinne, wie z. B. beim Stade Olympique (Sommerspiele 1976). Das futuristische Gebäude im Nordwesten der Stadt wird zwar vom höchsten schiefen Turm der Welt (176 m) überragt, das Dach des Stadions wurde jedoch erst 1980 (4 Jahre nach der Olympiade) fertig gestellt.
