Abstract
Former general practitioner Hawick (b Enniskillen 1938; q Aberdeen 1961; FRCGP 1987), died from a myocardial infarction on 4 August 2001. Following GP locums in the Scottish Highlands and a winter in a singlehanded practice in Saskatchewan, Alastair settled in partnership in Hawick, where he practised until his retirement in 1998. As the first Borders associate adviser in general practice (1982-93), he inaugurated the Borders Vocational Training and Half Day Release Scheme. He was a church elder and he derived great pleasure from choral singing. He leaves a wife, Gil; three children; and two grandchildren.
