Abstract
L'édition québécoise, dans sa dimension plurielle, est une industrie jeune d'à peine une quarantaine d'années. Son expansion coïncide avec les débuts de la Révolution tranquille, de laquelle les éditeurs ont été partie prenante et qui a permis au Québec d'affirmer son autonomie culturelle et de prendre ses distances vis-à-vis de la double tutelle française et anglophone. En raison de l'exiguïté de son marché intérieur, elle n'aurait cependant pu prétendre à la vitalité sans une forte intervention des pouvoirs publics en vue de la soutenir. Ce constat est tout particulièrement vrai pour l'édition littéraire, vecteur primordial de l'identité québécoise, qui a contribué à renforcer la cohésion nationale autour de la langue française. Les maisons qui constituent le champ editorial sont le plus souvent de petite taille, mais des phénomènes de concentration, à l'image de ce qui se passe dans les autres pays industrialisés, ont commencé à se manifester au cours des dernières années, tandis que la production québécoise cherche à présent à exporter son savoir-faire et ses spécificités.
