Abstract
A côté du traditionnel conflit entre blancs et autochtones, le clivage entre traditionalistes et progressistes a pris une importance croissante ces dernières années dans la réserve ilnue de Mashteuiatsh. De manière originale, c’est un mouvement de mères de famille qui mène la fronde contre le Conseil de bande jugé trop progressiste. Mais derrière cet arrière-fond assez classique, une troisième tension quasi raciale entre amérindiens « typés » et métis traverse de part en part la communauté et révèle cette situation difficile entre ouverture au monde blanc et repli identitaire.
