Abstract
Si l'univers religieux autochtone connaît un regain de visibilité significatif en Amérique du Nord, celui-ci n'est pas forcément proportionnel à la connaissance empirique que les non Autochtones peuvent avoir du sujet, malgré la multiplication des études spécialisées au cours des dernières décennies. L'analyse d'un échantillon de cinq cents études sur les systèmes religieux des populations Autochtones du Québec, produites entre 1850 et 2003, permet non seulement d'esquisser un premier portait de la nature et de l'évolution des études réalisées sur le sujet depuis plus d'un siècle et demi, mais aussi d'avancer certaines hypothèses pour rendre compte du déséquilibre apparent entre les données empiriques et analytiques qui s'accumulent et l'état pour le moins stagnant de la connaissance populaire.
