Abstract
L’article aborde certains nœuds du débat historiographique actuel sur les ville italiennes. Il analyse d’abord la capacité de résistance de la société rurale et la manière dont celle-ci a conditionné Vhistoriographique du rapport ville/campagne. Il explique ensuite comment le déclin du paradigme historiographique du méridiona-lisme classique et Vaffirmation du modèle de la troisième Italie ont réactivé Vintérêt pour les villes méridionales et les centres de l’Italie du Nord-Est. Puis, l’article explique comment la dialectique de l’histoire administrative entre le centre et la périphérie et celle de l’histoire politico-culturelle entre construction des identités locales et processus de nationalisation ont représenté une clé de lecture de la ville italienne contemporaine. Enfin, l’article aborde brièvement comment l’historiographie italienne a confronté le rapport entre morphologie physique, morphologie sociale et morphologie des représentations de la ville.
