Abstract
<titre>RÉSUMÉ</titre> Dans ce bref article, nous passons en revue les plus récents travaux portant sur la façon dont les nourrissons et les jeunes enfants catégorisent les hommes et les femmes et acquièrent une connaissance des caractéristiques propres à chacun des sexes. Dès l’âge de 12 mois, les nourrissons distinguent les deux sexes en se basant sur l’apparence physique. On observe une connaissance naissante des jouets, activités et métaphores reliés à chaque sexe dès l’âge de 18 mois. Des formes rudimentaires d’un schéma de genre sont donc observables à un âge remarquablement précoce, ce qui concorde avec l’approche cognitiviste sur le développement du concept de genre.
