Dans les années 1970-1980, des prises de position sur la prévention précoce en santé mentale s’affrontent en France, rassemblant d’un côté des pédopsychiatres, engagés dans la mise en place d’un repérage précoce des signes de souffrance chez de jeunes enfants pour les soigner et leur éviter une structuration psychique qui risque de les entraver dans leur développement, de l’autre, des sociologues et philosophes qui y voient une médicalisation croissante de l’existence à visée adaptative et un contrôle social accru sur les familles. Cet éclairage historique est mis en tension avec le débat actuel sur la prévention précoce en France.
