Le fondement de cette thèse repose sur quatre idées développées par Christopher Norton dans un article consacré aux carreaux de pavement cisterciens (fin XIIe-première moitié du XIIIe siècle) . la première concerne le statut de 1205 du chapitre général , citant un pavement dans l’église de Pontigny qui pose un problème d’attribution des techniques décoratives des carreaux, mais que l’auteur identifie comme étant des carreaux de mosaïque, notamment ceux dessinés par Emile Amé au XIXe siècle ...
