D'après l'interprétation anthropologique officielle, rétablissement précolombien de Cuzco a résulté de l'application de deux facteurs explicatifs: 1) un système de parenté qui avait pour fonction de maintenir une tripartition ethnique; 2) un mode de production qui assurait une redistribution de la richesse sociale en se fondant sur cette tripartition. Ces facteurs seraient à l'origine constitutifs d'un « ordre spatial » inca reflétant symboliquement la différenciation ethnique telle qu'elle est définie par l'anthropologie. Or il semble qu'une catégorisation géographique structurale aurait préexisté à l'éclosion de l'Empire inca. Cette structuration abstraite permettrait d'interpréter de façon inédite et la tripartition ethnique et la redistribution de la richesse sociale.
