Abstract
La participation de l’abbé François Falc’hun à la Mission de folklore musical de Basse-Bretagne de 1939 a été atypique pour plusieurs raisons, dont la communication se propose d’étudier les principales. 1- C’est une mission initiée, organisée et financée de Paris par le gouvernement du Front populaire. 2 - Bretonnant de langue maternelle, F. Falc’hun est alors le bretonnant le plus diplômé en linguistique, peut-être même le seul. Étudiant à l’Université de Paris, il a déjà reçu une formation en phonologie, science humaine alors toute jeune. 3 - La mission utilise les moyens techniques les plus modernes disponibles à l’époque (enregistrements sonores, films). 4 - Les préoccupations religieuses et morales en semblent tout à fait absentes. 5 - Cette mission a été son unique expérience en ce domaine. 6 - Cette mission n’a duré qu’un mois et demi. En revanche, l’étude et l’exploitation des documents recueillis a traîné en longueur pour plusieurs raisons. F. Falc’hun n’en a pas vu la publication, qui n’a été réalisée qu’en 2009 (Cths-Dastum-Crbc, sous la direction de Marie-Barbara Le Gonidec).
