Abstract

Le but de cet article est d'évaluer le rôle des réseaux de transport dans l'organisation et la dynamique de l'espace régional de la Mauricie - Bois-Francs. Après un bref examen des facteurs historiques ayant contribué au développement du transport dans la région, il est question de révolution des réseaux de transport en Mauricie et dans les Bois-Francs au cours des vingt dernières années. L'hypothèse de base de l'article est que les transports ont contribué à accentuer la dépendance de la région par rapport aux principaux centres décisionnels de l'économie canadienne et nord-américaine, et ce aux dépens d'une politique économique qui réponde aux aspirations de la région en matière de développement. Une véritable politique d'aménagement du territoire, dont les transports auraient constitué l'un des fondements essentiels, serait cependant en contradiction avec le renforcement du pouvoir économique dominant au Québec. Or ce dernier a réussi à faire imposer une politique de développement des transports et d'aménagement du territoire centrée sur la région administrative de Montréal afin de compenser la domination croissante de l'économie québécoise et canadienne par les intérêts financiers sud-ontariens et américains.
