This report deals with particle trajectories within a system of three potentials that induce inverse square law forces. The "soft" collisions with the scattering centers together with the ensuing chaotic dynamics may be viewed as a generalization of the more familiar chaotic scattering from configurations of hard disks. Two modes are considered: external injection into the scattering system, and internal release within the inter-potential region. In addition to extensive numerical simulations, an experiment is described in which a small permanent magnet is scattered by a system of three fixed magnets. Chaotic regions, marked by anomalously long escape times, are observed for some release coordinates of the moving magnet.
