La définition de ce qu’est un parent soulève aujourd’hui de nombreuses questions. Si le lien biologique n’est plus essentiel, le lien de longue durée demeure fondamental et l’engagement instrumental au quotidien du parent envers l’enfant prend une place plus déterminante que jamais. Devenir parent ne s’inscrit plus nécessairement dans une relation conjugale, ni dans une relation charnelle et n’implique plus automatiquement une relation entre un homme et une femme qui renvoie aux principes même de notre système généalogique présupposant une différenciation des sexes. Être parent aujourd’hui requiert également, de plus en plus souvent, la prise en compte d’autres « parents ».
