Abstract
Guy de Maupassant a entretenu une relation ambiguë avec le Moyen Âge, qui l’a fasciné dans sa jeunesse au point qu’il y fit référence dans plusieurs poèmes et qu’il le prit pour cadre d’un drame historique en vers :La trahison de la comtesse de Rhune. Écrivain confirmé, il discrédite l’époque médiévale dans ses chroniques et ses contes, la représentant comme une période pleine de légendes stupides et d’obscurantisme religieux et l’exploitant comme un repoussoir et une source de comique et de parodie. Cependant, sa poétique s’est imprégnée du Moyen Âge et ses récits courts sont héritiers du fabliau, de la farce et de la sottie.
