Abstract
Dans sa façon de présenter le récit, l’historien donne à voir le décalage qui existe entre ce qui est dit et le motif réel d’action, se proposant de révéler au lecteur « la cause la plus vraie ». En quoi le discours politique, que Thucydide prend le soin de recomposer, participe-t-il alors de l’histoire, s’il est le lieu de la dissimulation ? En nous attachant à l’étude de l’apparent ( phaneros ) et du caché ( aphanès ), nous déterminerons dans quelle mesure le discours, qui dissimule sous des prétextes, renseigne cependant le lecteur sur les enjeux véritables de l’action. Nous montrerons ainsi que cette relation discours-événement se répercute également sur le plan de la construction de l’œuvre, dans les interventions directes de l’auteur Thucydide.
