Abstract
Depuis le 19ème siècle, l’exploitation des ressources forestières gabonaises est axée sur la seule production de la matière ligneuse. Cependant, les impacts sociaux et environnementaux associés à cette activité ne sont pas pris en compte lors de la planification des opérations forestières. Pourtant, la gestion forestière durable prône de plus en plus la prise en compte des systèmes de valeurs des communautés locales dans l’aménagement forestier. Ce travail a été réalisé dans l’unité forestière d’aménagement numéro un (UFA1) de la compagnie forestière Leroy-Gabon. Des enquêtes sont effectuées dans les villages et les camps forestiers de cette UFA1. Les résultats ont permis d’identifier les enjeux socio-économiques et les impacts de l’exploitation forestière sur les communautés villageoises et les travailleurs forestiers. Ils montrent aussi que les populations ne sont pas impliquées dans le processus d’aménagement des forêts. Il y a également de nombreux conflits entre les villageois, la compagnie forestière et le service forestier. Par ailleurs, la santé et la sécurité des travailleurs forestiers sont compromises par de nombreux facteurs.
