Abstract
On a souvent souligné la nature discursive de l’identité ethnique, et c’est en son nom que certains chercheurs ont éliminé du champ d’investigation relatif à ce thème des pans entiers de la recherche comme les modes funéraires, au motif qu’ils reposeraient sur des données trop strictement archéologiques. Pourtant, les funérailles et les pratiques qui leur étaient associées ne pouvaient manquer de constituer un aliment à la parole, et particulièrement à la parole poétique. Cet article cherche donc à montrer que certains des clivages existant entre les différentes séquences funéraires se reflètent dans les différentes traditions épiques de l’âge du fer ancien ou du début de l’archaïsme.
