Abstract
L’économie du savoir, adoptée dans les politiques scientifiques publiques du Québec et du Canada, propose une science orientée vers la rentabilité et l’innovation commercialisable. Aucun débat public ne permet de savoir si ce virage vers la nouvelle science correspond aux valeurs et positions de la société québécoise, ni de s’interroger sur les risques de nuisance au bien commun et de violation de l’intégrité scientifique que pourrait entraîner cette proximité entre science et commerce. Ce texte propose de créer une commission citoyenne nationale de la recherche scientifique qui aurait pour mandat de soumettre la recherche scientifique à l’examen démocratique de ses ressources, de ses actions et de ses retombées. Formée de citoyens-chercheurs et de citoyens non chercheurs, elle serait le pilier d’une science plus ouverte à l’idéal de la citoyenneté scientifique, critique du virage marchand de la science et socialement responsable.
