L'année 2004 marque le soixantième anniversaire de la création de la Chaire de folklore à l'Université Laval et de ses archives (aujourd'hui AFEUL) qui ont assuré une grande part de l'enseignement et de la recherche en ethnologie au Québec.En juin 2003, une autre chaire de recherche a vu le jour, cette fois définie en patrimoine ethnologique.En près de soixante ans, l'ethnologie s'est développée progressivement et a évolué en diverses directions qui sont tantôt inhérentes aux acteurs de la recherche, tantôt à celles de l'enseignement, tantôt à celles de la diffusion.Si le cinquantième anniversaire a été l'occasion de faire le point sur la discipline dans une perspective comparative Europe et Amérique du Nord 1 , il nous a paru indispensable de faire, dix ans plus tard, un bilan de cette discipline au Québec, nommément désignée depuis 1993 par le terme « Ethnologie du Québec », conformément à la décision prise dans le monde francophone après le symposium international à Amsterdam en 1955 2 .Plusieurs chercheurs ont déjà publié des bilans historiques rigoureux qui révèlent des constats dont les scientifiques ont tiré profit.Mais nous nous proposons cette fois, et à la suite des
