Abstract
Cet article analyse le développement des zones numériques de patrimoine culturel en Afrique centrale à travers les exemples d’un musée virtuel, le Musée national des Arts et Traditions du Gabon, et aussi du projet de la « Route des chefferies » dans les Grassland de l’ouest du Cameroun. Ces espaces virtuels construisent un objet singulier, représentant un état négocié de différents types de « conscience » patrimoniale, idéologiquement ouverts aux perspectives du public. Il vise donc à examiner comment collaborent différents acteurs nationaux et étrangers, les manières d’aborder l’impact et la puissance de la restructuration de ce battage médiatique sur des réalisations patrimoniales concrètes, et enfin, à analyser les différences entre les types de réalité virtuelle et de musées. L’article explore plus particulièrement l’émergence d’un nouveau statut pour le musée virtuel, un « musée-signe » qui est intégré dans le système sémiotique plus large du patrimoine.
