Abstract
La promotion de la santé est une approche de prise en charge des problèmes de santé d'une société, apparue dans les années 1970 et qui a obtenu une reconnaissance internationale au milieu des années 1980. Le Québec a entretenu une attitude ambiguë face à ce «nouveau» discours, pourtant adopté dans l'enthousiasme ailleurs au Canada et dans d'autres pays. Cette attitude est présentée dans le contexte de l'évolution des pratiques québécoises en santé publique depuis une quarantaine d'années ; nous discutons aussi des conséquences de cette ambiguïté.
