Abstract
Magnetic remanent states and magnetization reversal mechanisms in linear chains of three closely-spaced Fe 1- x Ni x nanoparticles are studied using micromagnetic simulations, for particle sizes of between 10 and 150 nm. The role of the formation and switching of magnetic vortices in the particles is demonstrated for external fields applied parallel to the chain axes. Variations in vortex core diameter, coercivity and vortex rotation plane with applied field are discussed.
