Abstract
Dans les sociétés occidentales, l’utilisation des substances psychotropes, devenant « médicament psychiatrique », constitue le dispositif central pour faire face à des expériences diverses de souffrance psychique et sociale. Cet article vise à comprendre le rôle joué par le traitement psycho-pharmacologique dans la vie des personnes qui fréquentent le réseau des services en psychiatrie. Il présente une analyse transversale des résultats de deux recherches, lesquelles, tout en ayant leurs objectifs propres, ont abordé le rapport des usagers aux psychotropes. Il s’agit de saisir « du dedans », l’impact de la psychopharmacologie dans la vie des personnes en restant au plus proche de leurs expériences et stratégies. Il est aussi essentiel de comprendre les conditions socioculturelles, les contraintes et les effets systémiques qui contribuent à la construction sociale de ces expériences. Cette analyse met en évidence les importantes contraintes que le système de services en psychiatrie impose aux personnes quand il oriente ses pratiques essentiellement sur le contrôle du respect des prescriptions pharmacologiques.
