La consolidation de la Politique européenne de sécurité et de défense (PESD) entraîne une reconfiguration des relations transatlantiques en matière de défense, désormais appréhendées sous l'angle d'un rapport direct entre les États‐Unis et l'Union européenne. Cet article s'intéresse aux conséquences pour le Canada de sa marginalisation en matière de défense. La PESD y est décrite comme un champ organisationnel avec un nouvel ensemble d'acteurs, de règles et de représentations sociales. On y montre que le Canada a du mal à trouver sa place dans cet espace producteur de politiques de sécurité, qui n'est ni celui d'un État souverain, ni celui d'une organisation internationale traditionnelle comme l'OTAN. La solution passe par un engagement concret et pragmatique au sein même du champ de la défense européenne.
