Abstract
Quelle place occupent les aspects professionnels — incluant dimensions occupationnelle et scolaire — dans le moment choisi pour devenir mère? Des réponses ont été fournies dans le cadre d’une recherche à caractère phénoménologique, visant à comprendre le phénomène d’une première maternité par la comparaison entre les primipares « hâtives » et « tardives ». Les témoignages recueillis auprès de 36 femmes et de leur conjoint par entrevues semi-structurées ont été soumis à une analyse qualitative. Les résultats démontrent des liens étroits entre le moment d’une première maternité et le vécu professionnel dans ses composantes d’apprentissage, de formation ou d’investissement sur le marché du travail rémunéré. Cette interdépendance apparaît à travers les expressions des femmes elles-mêmes, auxquelles s’ajoutent les éléments d’analyse des profils scolaire et occupationnel.
