It is with great interest that I read the journal article by Kannus et al.(1) on declining incidence of hip fracture in Finland, where since 1997, the rise has leveled off for data to 2004. Last year in JBMR, my group(2) reported population projections for hip fracture incidence from 2001 to 2004 in Ontario, Canada, that showed that incidence is stabilizing. We have now updated these projections (Table 1) with actual data for hip fractures in 2003–2005 in Ontario, Canada, and confirmed that age-adjusted rates are decreasing, and the rate of decrease was greater for women than men.
