Abstract
Dans cet article, l’auteur se penche sur le rôle du projectionniste au temps des premières salles de cinéma, en s’appuyant notamment sur les manuels de projection de l’époque. Grande figure oubliée des histoires du cinéma, le projectionniste n’en demeure pas moins, en effet, l’un des intervenants principaux dans le processus global de production des vues. Par ailleurs, la nature particulière du travail qu’il effectue au moment de la consommation des vues ébranle les thèses dominantes sur la narration et la spectature dans le cinéma des premiers temps et exige que l’on redéfinisse la notion même de « production ». Envisageant les vues animées comme de véritables biens de consommation, l’auteur propose enfin une approche historique et théorique qui fait état de l’hétérogénéité et de la diversité des pratiques durant la période sous observation, qui en est une de transformations.
