Abstract
L’avance en âge s’accompagne, on le sait, pour chacun d’entre nous, de peurs multiples. La peur d’entrer en institution en fait durablement partie. Pourquoi cette peur est-elle si tenace? Pourquoi résiste-t-elle à l’évolution globale, apparente et parfois réelle des institutions? Sans-doute parce qu’elle est alimentée par l’institution elle-même: sans limites, toute puissante et peu crédible. Au terme d’une dernière mise en demeure l’entrée en institution est alors vécue comme un non-choix qui entraîne une détérioration de l’estime et de l’image de soi. Nous avons donc à «réinventer» l’institution pour retrouver de la liberté. Plusieurs repères ou exigences peuvent nous y aider: exigences d’ouverture, de dimension, de technicité professionnelle, de qualité et de niveau de formation des personnels, d’intégration dans un environnement social et de capacité à offrir des services à formes multiples. Même si le coût est élevé... Sans cela nous continuerons à accepter l’inacceptable.
