Formation et partage de l’espace régional : le coût du travail et le déploiement de l’industrie dans la région de Québec

Abstract
Cet article pose les premiers jalons d'une hypothèse permettant d'interpréter les modifications que l'on observe dans l'espace industriel de la région de Québec. Suite à l'analyse des tendances observées au niveau de la localisation des industries, on observe que le coût du travail est devenu un facteur primordial de localisation. En même temps, les tendances observées au niveau de la main-d'oeuvre manufacturière permettent de conclure que l'industrie manufacturière est en croissance dans les comtés ruraux, périphériques, alors qu'elle est en décroissance dans les comtés anciennement industrialisés du centre. La synthèse de ces deux constats nous permet d'avancer une hypothèse de travail : l'industrie manufacturière s'accroît là où la main-d'oeuvre est prête à accepter des salaires inférieurs, c'est-à-dire dans les comtés situés sur la rive sud de la région.
