Abstract
De plus en plus d’historiens s’interrogent, non sans quelques réticences, sur leur discipline, en écrivant « l’histoire de l’histoire » ou en ayant recours à l’épistémologie. Quels sont les évolutions et les avatars de la profession ? Comment perçoit-on l’expertise ou l’audit en histoire ? Quelles en sont les accointances avec le privé, les affinités avec le système judiciaire et l’appareil médiatique ? Olivier Lévy-Dumoulin s’intéresse au rôle social de l’historien sous une Ve République inscrite plus que jamais dans un processus de mondialisation. Il transporte ensuite le débat outre-Atlantique, au Canada en l’occurrence, où les historiens jouissent du statut d’« expert witness » devant les tribunaux.
