Cet article examine la relation entre la narrativité et la fictionnalité dans le roman hautement métatextuel Le Mal de Montano de l’écrivain catalan Enrique Vila-Matas. Dans cette fiction bigarrée est élaborée une représentation de l’écrivain qui combine des incertitudes fictionnelles, un récit diffracté et plusieurs figures littéraires considérées par le narrateur comme autant de filiations possibles. De la sorte, est mise au jour la constante et complexe négociation entre la cohérence propre de la fiction et un cheminement croisant différents récits et genres littéraires, à travers la construction de la figure même de l’écrivain.
